In today’s technically advanced world, one cannot live without a smartphone. Approximately all smart phones at the moment come under the operating system category of Android or iOS. These independent App developing firms earn in huge amount of revenue by letting other service or product firm to post their respective ads. This has prepared numerous self-sufficient developers into huge commercial venture and big time development firms in the fields of Android app development. Android enhances the performance of the smartphones. The developers who are scheduling to build any sort of apps or games for the Android technology can establish their practice of growth by means of the Java programming language and despite the fact that at first the procedure of development could be done in a ancient method and additional add-ons and extensions could be used so that the developments that are done match up to the competition which is prevalent today in the Android market.

The software development kit for android development consists of various components which are required for seamless integration and development of an application. These are a few of the features which have finished the procedure of construction applications for the Android technology a very undemanding assignment. And this is one of the grounds for which the technology to develop so enormously in such a small period of time.

* Although this will depend on the carrier, one will be able to customize a mobile phones using Android platform like never before, right down to the screen.

* Features like weather details, opening screen, live RSS feeds and even the icons on the opening screen will be able to be customized.

* As a result of many mobile phones carrying Android, companies has come up with such innovative products like the location aware services that will provide users with any information they might be in need of.

* This information could help developing further apps like knowing the location of a nearby convenience store or filling station.

From Ice Cream Sandwich To Jelly Bean- Android5

Next to Ice cream sandwich it is going to be Jelly bean. Yes, that's right, the latest Android5 aka Android Jellybean is the most hyped amongst various android app developers. The Android 2.x series started when Android 2.0 Eclair was released at the end of 2009. By the end of 2010, Froyo and Gingerbread (Android 2.2 and 2.3) were released and remained the dominant versions used until today. Since then, Google has released Android 3 (Honeycomb) and Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

ANDROID JELLY BEAN: KEY FEATURES
Google released its Chrome internet browser app for devices running Ice Cream Sandwich, so it is expected to see Chrome become the default browser for Android Jelly Bean too.
As enormous screens start to keep onto more and more phones, it'd be nice to be able to flip it into landscape mode and use it like a tablet especially as Android 5.0 will be designed to run on phones and tablets, like its previous versions.

Dual-core and quad-core processors are now a big hype in the smartphone category, it is expected that Android Jelly Bean might optimize these super quick chips and provide a fluid and speedy experience.

More power means more demand on the battery and Android 5.0 is speculated to make sure to provide maximum battery life.

Android Jelly Bean is expected to be competitive in its pricing compared to that of Windows Phone Tango OS.

The feature, lock screen widgets, which HTC users would be familiar could be made a permanent option with Android Jelly Bean.

Churning more and more files onto our devices becomes increasingly tricky to keep track of everything. Some manufactures offer file managers as part of their user interfaces, but Android currently lacks its own dedicated file manager, something Android 5.0 can hopefully solve.
Android tablets or smartphone owners are practically exploit for keyboards choices. In the absence of any Google designed keyboard, Swype and Swiftkey have stepped up to the task and have provided high quality keyboards. Though Google should not bereft users to use these keyboards but a standard keyboard in the Android OS itself will solve some issues.

ANDROID JELLY BEAN: MANUFACTURER COMMITMENTS
LG guarantees an update of Android Jelly Bean for all of its 2012 handsets which are able to support version 5.0. Asus has also made it clear that it wants to be the first company to offer devices running Android 5.0, after leading the way with Android Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich updates.

ANDROID JELLY BEAN: RELEASE DATE
Some rumors have suggested that we could see Android app programmer make its way onto handsets as early as Q2 this year. There is also some slight more believable speculation that Android Jelly Bean will arrive towards the end of this year as Google looks to continue with its annual roll-out of software updates.

Google has said that it will be flexible with the Android Jelly Bean release date and it might differ from previous releases depending on how long it takes to finish the update.

Android Community Weekly: April 15th, 2012

Welcome once again to our weekly update on everything you need to know in the Android universe. If you’ve neglected your news for the last seven days, take a few minutes to consider the following – everything else is a sideshow. There’s a considerable amount of hardware, software, modding and business news to cover in the Android world, so settle in. While no earth-shattering announcements were made this week, those who like big tablets and even bigger acquisitions should be well satisfied.

One of the most interesting bits of hardware news came right away on Monday, when Toshiba announced brand new 7.7, 10 and 13-inch (!) tablets in their Excite line. All three Tegra 3 ICS machines should be out by the summer. HTC had some rather humdrum announcements for new Desire phones in China, and leaks are beginning to show off the low-end HTC Golf and Verizon’s HTC Incredible 4G. Those waiting for the One S on T-Mobile won’t have to wait too much longer: a launch party and dummy units make the rumored April 25th date seem likely.

As usual there’s a lot of movement in the Samsung camp: the Galaxy Tab 2 10-inch gets an official price of just $399 for the 8GB version, and rumors indicate that even more 7-inch and 10-inch tablets are coming under the “Espresso” label. Finally, the Galaxy Note 10.1 may not be in its final form just yet. Both Lenovo and Barnes & Noble are showing off new devices, the former with a new IdeaPad 10-inch tablet and the latter with a lighted version of the Nook Simple Touch. LG’s new Optimus L7 is coming  to France this month, with its little brother the Optimus L5 following in May. A pair of smartwatches made splashes, Sony’s Xperia SmartWatch for coming to the US, and the brand-new Pebble e-ink smart watch for getting an incredibly successful Kickstarter campagin. Finally, ASUS’ toned down Transformer Pad 300 will be here in the US by the end of the month.

Painkiller comes to Android via Duke Nukem developer

There’s been a lot of classic games getting remade for Android lately, and the latest in the long line is sleeper first-person shooter hit Painkiller. The original game came out in  2004 for the PC, but noted Android developer Machineworks is bringing it back for a go-round on your phone or tablet under the name Painkiller: Purgatory HD. You can pick it up in the Google Play Store for the odd price of $1.11, and any device running Eclair or later can join in the fun. That said, you’ll probably want something with at least a 1ghz processor to get the best experience.

The original Painkiller followed Daniel Garner, an admirable everyman who’s killed along with his wife in a traffic accident. While his wife floats on up to Heaven, Danny Boy is sent somewhere altogether hotter. He’s given a shot at release if he can kill four of Satan’s generals and avert a literal holy war, and with the help of some ridiculously over-the-top weapons he plows through armies of demons to claw his way out of Hell. With modern (for the time) graphics and classic “shoot everything that moves and everything else if you’ve got the ammo” gameplay inspired by The Duke himself, it won quite a lot of fans on the PC.

Machineworks Northwest should give you pause, however. While Duke Nukem 3D was highly anticipated in its Android release, its reception was somewhat chilly, after the developer embedded ads in a paid game and required in-app purchases for the complete original. Machineworks quickly removed the ads and Duke Nukem 3D is now a free download, but poor controls and general bugginess have earned it a less than stellar rating on the Google Play Store. It looks like Painkiller: Purgatory HD is a complete game after the initial purchase, so you shouldn’t have to worry about dipping into your wallet even further. Even so, you might want to wait for a couple of update cycles for the devs to iron out the bugs and add features like Xperia Play support.

Temple Run officially hits Android March 27, will be free

Good news this morning folks. The team at Imangi Studios has finally announced an official release date of the hugely popular game Temple Run for Android. We’ve mentioned it more than a few times before, and with huge responses and anger when it wasn’t released in February like promised. Sadly we’ll have to wait a few more weeks but it’ll be here soon enough.

For some unknown reason this game has achieved a huge level of success being the top free and grossing app for iOS in January and passing over 40 million downloads. The wait for this game to hit Android has been a long one but I can happy say that Android will be running from Monkeys and enjoying Temple Run come March 27th and it will be completely free.

Here is what Co-founder Keith Sheperd had to say:
We are excited to finally share the Android release date with our fans who have been so enthusiastic and supportive of Temple Run. By expanding to more mobile devices, we hope to provide the same addictive and fast-paced gameplay to an entirely new group of players.
So that’s it guys. No more rumors or suggestions of a February 9th launch or whatever the rumor was that had everyone up in arms. This comes from Imangi Studios themselves and remember, if you see Temple Run in the Android Market before March 27th most likely it’s a fake as we’ve seen a few of those the past couple of weeks.

VLC now available for Android

If you’re as adamant about your desktop computer as you are about your Android phone (and if you’re reading this, then odds are pretty good you fall into the latter category) then you’ve probably heard of Video LAN Player, colloquially known as VLC. The Swiss army knife of desktop media players has been on its way to Android for quite some time, but you can try out an unofficial build of the open-source video app now. This version is compiled using published code from the Linux desktop version – a more official app from VideoLAN.org is planned later this year.

Just as you’d expect from VLC, the app handles dozens of file types and codes without complain. The user interface isn’t exactly amazing (par for the course for VLC) but it’s functional and it gets the job done. This breakoff from the VLC code base is currently in its beta release for ARM11, Cortex 8 and Cortex A9-class processors. Video performance is largely contingent upon the power of your phone or tablts CPU/GPU combo, and each one will react differently. But in general terms, the faster your processor is , the smoother your video playback will be at any given quality. Some devices still don’t have hardware acceleration properly configured.

It’s hard to know exactly which version of the beta app you need. Have a gander at this handy guide created by the developers:
  • Snapdragon S1 → ARM11
  • Snapdragon S2/S3 → Cortex-A8/NEON
  • Snapdragon S4 → Cortex-A9
  • Tegra 2 → Cortex-A9
  • Hummingbird → Cortex-A9 (Current gen. only)
  • OMAP3 → Cortex-A8/NEON
  • OMAP4 → Cortex-A9
The basic interface is actually surprisingly good, borrowing here and there from the stock Music app with the handy addition of a visible index bar. Search functions make finding one song in a thousand pretty easy.  If you’re not sure what kind of CPU architecture your Android phone or tablet has, look it up on Device.ac. Remember that this isn’t a final, or even official release – have fun playing local music and videos, but don’t be too upset if something goes bang.

Android Community Evening Wrap-Up: February 13, 2012

We hope you all had a great weekend, and now that Monday is coming to a close, we’ll play catch-up on any important news you may have missed. The Motorola DROID 4 was cracked open by iFixit today, so head on over to check out all the bits and pieces that make up your new device. DROID 4 owners will also be thrilled to know its already been rooted! You can get it now, and it works much like the method used for the DROID RAZR and RAZR Maxx.
Google’s Motorola buyout was approved by the EU today. Way back when we first heard of the search giant’s purchase proposal, it was obvious they needed to score a few patents. And $12.5 billion dollars later, here we are. This may be just the nudge Google’s been waiting for.

Quadrant Benchmark has updated their software to include ICS and multi-core support. No more wondering how your new device stacks up to some of the older ones! You’ll be able to test this on the Acer ICONIA Tab A200, as it should be receiving Android 4.0 any moment now (if not already).

And finally, more information on upcoming MWC 2012 in Barcelona, Spain! We’ve gotten word that a Motorola smartphone with Intel inside should be unveiled. Android 4.0 should also be on board, yet you probably already knew that – as it should be included in most new devices this year.

Android Community January 22, 2012

It’s been a surprisingly busy week for Android as 2012 gets started in earnest. Much of the news from Monday and Tuesday came as the tech industry caught its collective breath, after the gadget smorgasbord that was the Consumer Electronics Show. For the best and brightest, be sure to check out or Android CES wrap up. You can see all our coverage of CES 2012, from this week and last, by visiting our CES portal. As for the rest – and that encompasses quite a lot this week – read on below.

As far as hardware goes, an encouraging number of new devices were spotted this week. The biggest (metaphorically speaking, of course) is probably LG’s X3, the likely codename for their new flagship. The rumored phone runs Ice Cream Sandwich on a 4.3-inch 720p screen. It’s very likely that we’ll be seeing more of that phone next month at Mobile World Congress. Tablet dreamers Notion Ink unveiled the second iteration of their Adam tablet, this time with upgrades in hardware and more developer tools. WiFi versions of the Motorola DROID XYBOARD are up for pre-order, and those who fancy more variety in their LTE smartphones will be happy to know that the LG Connect 4G has passed through the FCC with Verizon radio bands. While we’re certain that the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note is coming to AT&T in the near future, industry rumor indicates that it will be coming to at least two more US carriers, and that the Verizon version will likely be renamed the “Galaxy Journal.” Finally, you won’t want to miss Discuss [1], a pair of high-quality headphones with unique wood construction and environmentally-friendly materials.

On the software side of Android, the biggest release this week was probably Wikipedia’s official Android app, which can now be downloaded for free in the Market. Shooter favorite Counter-Strike is now available in beta form, and high-profile games Temple Run and Reckless Racing 2 will soon be headed to the Android Market as well. In more wide-reaching news, popular Android modder/developer Koush has begun work on a CyanogenMod App Store, which he says will welcome all the legitimate apps that have been given the boot from the Market by Google, including tethering, emulator and root apps. We can’t wait to see what comes of this one, especially since it will be open to non-CyanogenMod users as well.

Android Applications : Holo Everywhere

Android Framework engineer Adam Powell wrote recently about the Android Holo theme family.

Android 4.0 showcases the Holo theme family, further refined since its debut in Android 3.0. But as most Android developers know, a new system theme for some Android devices isn't a new or uncommon event. For an Android developer, new system themes mean more design targets for their apps. Using system themes means Android App Developers can take advantage of a user's existing expectations and it can save a lot of production time, but only if an Android app designer can reliably predict the results. Before Android 4.0, the variance in system themes from device to device could make it difficult to design an app with a single predictable look and feel. We set out to improve this situation for the android app developer community in Ice Cream Sandwich and beyond.

If you're not already familiar with Android's style and theme system, you should read Styles and Themes before continuing.

Compatibility Standard

In Android 4.0, Holo is different. We've made the inclusion of the unmodified Holo theme family a compatibility requirement for devices running Android 4.0 and forward. If the device has Android Market it will have the Holo themes as they were originally designed.

This standardization goes for all of the public Holo widget styles as well. The Widget.Holo styles will be stable from device to device, safe for use as parent styles for incremental customizations within your app.

The Holo theme family in Android 4.0 consists of the themes Theme.Holo, Theme.Holo.Light, and Theme.Holo.Light.DarkActionBar. To use a Holo theme, explicitly request one from your manifest on your activity or application element. Your app will be displayed using the unmodified theme on all compatible Android 4.0 devices. The Holo themes may also be used as stable parent themes for app-level theme customizations.

What about device themes?

We have no desire to restrict manufacturers from building their own themed experience across their devices. In fact we've gone further to make this even easier. In Android 4.0's API level 14, we've added a new public theme family to complement the Holo family introduced in Android 3.0: DeviceDefault. DeviceDefault themes are aliases for the device's native look and feel. The DeviceDefault theme family and widget style family offer ways for Android developers to target the device's native theme with all customizations intact.

Formally separating these theme families will also make future merges easier for manufacturers updating to a new platform version, helping more devices update more quickly. Google's Nexus devices will alias DeviceDefault to the unmodified Holo themes.

2012 Android Resolutions

Once I really sat down and starting to think about a few new year resolutions for Android I quickly started getting all sorts of ideas. From saying to leave nicer, more useful comments in the Android Market comment/reviews section, to be friendly in forums and developer sites and help your fellow Android enthusiasts. Although I do agree people need to search, investigate, and read how-to guides before asking silly questions when it comes to modding and hacking Android. Either way — be nicer to our friends and foes in the Android Community.

Battery Life

Battery life: we need bigger, better, with shorter charging times. Obviously the technology has only came so far and there is only so much room in these increasingly thinner phones and tablets. Batteries like the one above plastering 2,430 mAh (wow) in a big noticeable sticker isn’t what I have in mind either. That cheap battery probably is 1000 mAh under that wrapper. I’m talking about real battery improvements — whether that be in general power management with OS, displays, and apps — to bigger and better batteries that wont make our devices larger.
If people can drive 100 miles with a Prius with nothing but battery power then why can’t my Android smartphone last 3 days like my old Nokia candy-bar phone did? Just a thought. That is my first resolution for 2012.

Google Nexus Tablet

Now I wont spend too much time on this Nexus Tablet thing — mainly because we heard it from the big man himself. Google CEO Eric Schmidt said back in December that a Google Nexus Tablet could be here within the next six months. Now this is a very real possibility and something I’ve wanted forever (well, since the Xoom let me down). My only concern is making the design impressive enough for it to blow up, without getting Apple’s slew of lawyers in crazed dash for the courtroom. That is also my next resolution — chill out on the lawsuits everyone! Back to the tablet though, I have a feeling Google is planning a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 Android 4.1 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet that will hopefully set the tone once again for Android. Who’s with me?

Lawsuits and Carrier IQ

This entire lawsuit and Carrier IQ disaster than has erupted throughout 2011 is actually very irritating. I seriously almost didn’t even want to mention it but I feel it is quite necessary. Between the Apple/Micro$oft vs Google thing to the train wreck many are calling Carrier IQ. These types of things in general need to stop — although I’m almost positive the never will. The countless countless lawsuits thrown around by Apple are starting to get a bit ridiculous, not to mention all their “innovative” patents. And don’t even get me started on Carrier IQ.

Android deserves a Nexus Certification Program

If Verizon’s ridiculous handling of the Galaxy Nexus US launch has taught us anything, it’s that the carriers are still firmly in control of the mobile world, at least in the United States. While there’s no confirmation, strong evidence indicates that Verizon’s desire for a carrier-controlled NFC payment system, which isn’t even anywhere near launching, caused weeks and weeks of delays. Consumers in Google’s own country stewed while seemingly everyone else in the world got a hold of the very first Android 4.0 hardware. All we could do was cry foul until the release, something that a few of Google’s top brass must have been doing as well.

Add that to the Verizon’s continuous stance on locked bootloaders for flagship phones like the DROID RAZR and various carriers booting out apps form the Android Market seemingly at will, and the world’s most widely-used “open” mobile platform is looking more and more like a vector for wireless providers to hawk their secondary and tertiary services to customers without any real options.

So here’s my humble suggestion for fixing this glaring black eye on the Android ecosystem: cut out the middle man, create a set of standards and start selling devices to customers instead of corporations.

Oregon Trail is free on Android Market

Who among us can’t remember crowding around the class Macintosh to watch one lucky kid at a time try to make the journey west to the pixelated promised land in Oregon Trail. Well, probably quite a few of us – those of you who are significantly older or younger than I am, for a start. But I digress. Oregon Trail is back, this time from mobile mega-developer Gameloft, in an updated version for your Android phone or tablet. And it’s free.

For the two of you out there in Internet Land who never played one of Oregon Trail’s many iterations, it goes something like this: you start of as a family of frontier hopefuls, buying a wagon, oxen and supplies in Missouri, trying to survive the perilous journey to Oregon. You could name your character and family members (most of my classmates opted for names with just four letters), make course decisions at key crossroads, repair and resupply your wagon along the way, and of course, hunt wildlife for food. In an oddly macabre edition to a kids’ game, your family members – and eventually the player character – can die in grisly, horrible and ultimately realistic ways. Always a crowds pleaser.

Gameloft’s version, entitled Oregon Trail: Settler, brings the same core survivalist gameplay with some pleasing modern tweaks. Once you reach the end of your journey you’re introduced to a Sim City-style isometric town, where you must farm, market and defend your property. The game is free in the Android Market (that’s zero buckskins for you pioneer types) and available now for all recent versions of Android. Remember: always buy lots of bullets.

Instagram In Android soon

Many of us rely on our smartphone as the “go to” camera for anything, so it’s important to have the best effects and filters at our fingertips. Instagram does such a thing perfectly, but has solely been available for iOS for quite some time. Chief Executive Kevin Systrom of Instagram has just announced that an Android version of his applicaiton is on the way.

We had heard such a rumor back in 2010, but it never came to be. Hopefully now that they have two dedicated developers working on the port to Android, we’ll see it soon. It’s extremely popular on the iPhone and with 50 million users worldwide I’m sure the trend with continue on Android.

The application is free on iOS, and will remain free once ported to Android. Since it’s such a popular and widely used application, a few advertisements here and there greatly support their development. With as popular and quickly Android has grown, it seems logical to expand and take advantage of an extremely large, new audience.
